We’re all aware of how technology makes certain aspects of farming more convenient, and these days nearly everyone has a smartphone. Here’s an article from the New York Times about a Swiss dairy farmer who is taking smart phone technology to the next level! This farmer receives text message from his cows when they’re in estrus!
This technology resembles a CIDR of sorts. Each impliment detects internal signals of coming into head, and has a corresponding sensor attached to the cow’s neck which detects signals of increased motion commonly associated with cycling. When heat is detected, the sensor around the neck sends a text message to tell the farmer which is cow is ready to breed. How nifty is that?
