Animal Science and Industry Department at Kansas State University hosts an Animal Science Academic Quadrathlon each February to help test student’s knowledge and learn more about the discipline of animal science. Teams of 4 participate in a competition consisting of four parts-quiz bowl, oral presentation, lab practicum, and written exam. I have competed in this competition since freshmen year, and the fourth year must have been a charm because our team won at our college level competition. Our team, consisting of myself, Cole and Ransom Gardiner, and Mark Spare traveled to Ames and Des Moines, Iowa over spring break to compete in the Midwest Academic Quadrathlon competition held in conjunction with American Society of Animal Science. Our team came home with a 2nd place in the written exam!
This competition is a great way to meet new people, brush up on your oral presentation skills, and collaborate with your team to demonstrate your knowledge and learn from one another. I highly encourage students to get involved in the Academic Quadrathlon and take advantage of this opportunity!
