My mom and dad just moved to Kansas from Washington State this June. They moved from 7 acers to over 80 acers to start another cow calf operation after 8 years of only raising sheep with show steers. I think this is the best thing they could have done for themselves. From growing up in an agriculture background my whole life I couldn’t be more than happy to watch my parents get their dream back. All I’ve ever heard from them was they shouldn’t have moved from Wyoming to Washington State. But at the same time I think they knew it was for the best. We were able to build up our sheep operation and make connections in the sheep world. As well as lifelong friends who still keep in touch with us. Now that they are here their making connections in the beef and sheep industry here in Kansas. This will make it easier for them to build their operation up and farm at the same time. I think this is the best retirement plan anyone could do with their lives. Yes those that retire may be older but that doesn’t mean they can’t do what they want with the rest of their lives. Also the more agricultural operations there are the better we are as an industry to meet the demands of feeding the world. So let’s encourage anyone who wants to be a part of our world to take the next step and make it happen! Here’s to all the families in agriculture.
