What do you want to be?

This is a really hard question for a lot of people since it is hard to decide what you want to do for the rest of your life when you are so young. Some people have no idea what they want to do, but I was different. Ever since I was a little kid I always knew what I wanted to be, I want to be a veterinarian. My parents and my local veterinarian always encouraged me to follow my dreams and pushed me to my full potential. I was always so excited and confident when people asked me what I wanted to be. That all changed a few years ago. Whenever I answered with a veterinarian, the people asking me would always say, “Why don’t you want to be a doctor instead?” In their defense that is a fair question, however for me it is very discouraging. The reason why this is so discouraging is because doctors make more money than veterinarians and that is the reason that question is being asked. Doctors and veterinarians go to school the same amount of time, go through difficult classes, but the salary is different. I want to be a veterinarian because that is my passion, I love working with animals and making them feel better. I always thought about being a doctor but ultimately that is not my passion and it is not what I want to do with my life, I want to spend my life working with animals and seeing the bond between the owner and the animal. I believe strongly that you should follow your dreams and not do a certain job just for the salary. If you choose a job for the salary and not because you love it, then it will be very difficult to want to go to work and love your job. Now I can answer this question confidently because I am sure of what I want to do with my life and I have a passion for veterinary medicine and it is what makes me happy. Life is about chasing your dreams and following your passions, passion is what makes life exciting.
